Motom Italiana Spa – Extremely Rare in the UK 

This exceptionally rare 4-stroke OHV motorcycle, featuring an all-aluminium engine, a 3-speed gearbox and a 48.78cc capacity, was remarkably ahead of its time.

Motom Italiana Spa, based on the outskirts of Milan, was led by Ernesto Frau de Angeli. 

He enlisted some of the finest minds in automotive engineering, including Batista Falchetto, a Lancia factory engineer, who brought with him a team of Lancia technicians. 

The legendary motorcycle and racing car driver Pierro Taruffi, along with Piero Remor – celebrated engine designer for Gilera and later MV Agusta – also contributed to Motom’s engineering excellence.

The frame design was the pièce de résistance: the press-formed rigid ‘X-Frame’ with its integral fuel tank was the work of Battista Farina, famously known as ‘Pinin’ (a Piedmontese term meaning the youngest or smallest brother). Farina’s Carrozzeria Pininfarina company would go on to become a global icon in automotive design.

By the mid-1950s, Motom was one of Italy’s largest producers of two-wheelers, celebrated for their impeccable craftsmanship and innovative designs. 

This particular example, the subject of an older restoration, remains in outstanding condition, with exceptional detail that exemplifies the brand’s commitment to quality.

A true collector’s piece and a significant part of motorcycling history.
