ITALJET Grifon
ITALJET Grifon
Founded by Leopoldo Tartarini in 1960 as Italemmezera, the company was rebranded to ITALJET in 1961. Tartarini, a visionary in the motorcycle world, declined an offer from Count Augusta to ride his renowned MV Agustas – his mother wouldn’t let him leave the family motorcycle shop.
Despite this, he carved a legendary path, riding for Ducati before an injury ended his racing career.
Tartarini’s creative genius extended to designing some of Ducati’s most iconic models, with ITALJET assembling several of them. His reputation for innovation caught the attention of Triumph and BSA, leading to consultancy work that resulted in a groundbreaking collaboration: ITALJET acquiring 650cc Triumph engines to create the ITALJET Grifon. This marked the only time Triumph has ever supplied its engines to another manufacturer.
Production of the Grifon ran from 1967 to 1971, with fewer than 1,000 units believed to have been made.
Estimates suggest around 300 went to Europe, 300 to Australasia, and 300 to America. In its final production years, the Grifon was exceptionally expensive, costing 800,000 Lire in Italy – a premium price for its time.
This particular Grifon is thought to be the only one in the UK.
It is an award-winning example and the subject of a feature in Classic Motor Cycle magazine.
A true motorcycle unicorn, this Grifon offers an unparalleled opportunity for collectors.
You will likely never see another.
UK and worldwide delivery options are available.
