1948 Moto Guzzi Motoleggera 65
The 1948 Moto Guzzi Motoleggera 65 is a highly original example of one of Italy’s most significant lightweight motorcycles. Supplied with UK documentation, registered as VXS 687, and featuring matching numbers.
Moto Guzzi was founded in 1919 by Carlo Guzzi and formally constituted in 1921 alongside partners including Emanuele Vittorio Parodi. The iconic eagle logo, with its outstretched wings, pays tribute to Giovanni Ravelli, a fellow Italian Air Corps pilot who tragically died during a test flight in 1919.
Introduced in 1946 to meet Italy’s urgent post-war need for mobility, the Motoleggera – also known as the “Guzzino” or “little Guzzi” – proved immensely successful, with around 50,000 units sold over three years. Massively advanced for its class, it featured front and rear suspension that was groundbreaking for the period, and many Italian racers began their careers on these bikes.
From 1946 through to the early 1960s, Moto Guzzi dominated world motorcycling, culminating in the legendary V8 racer.
This example has never been restored and remains largely original, a credit to the Moto Guzzi factory on the shores of Lake Como. Presented in this condition, it offers exceptional character and would draw attention wherever it is ridden.
UK and worldwide delivery options are available.
