1929 Brough Superior SS80
1929 Brough Superior SS80
This remarkable 1929 Brough Superior SS80 is a true icon of British motorcycling heritage. Built late in 1929, it was collected from the Haydn Road Works in Nottingham on 1st January 1930, as confirmed by its original Works Record Card.
Originally equipped with a luxurious Brough Superior sidecar – a costly and exclusive addition at the time – this SS80 exemplifies the high-end craftsmanship of its era.
While the sidecar is no longer with the bike, it remains a standout example, being one of only 22 SS80s produced in 1929. Factory-fitted options include a tank-top switch, hinged carrier, seat tube oil tank, short-stroke oil pump with Bowden control, Brampton forks, a ‘Terry’ saddle, and a Jaeger speedometer.
In 1998, this SS80 underwent a meticulous nut-and-bolt restoration by Simon Mills, a renowned expert in the marque. Since its restoration, the bike has covered just 12 miles, preserving its pristine condition. Adding to its provenance, the SS80 was photographed on 27th June 1954 with rider R. Holland and a passenger at the start of the sixth-ever Banbury Run, further enhancing its historical significance.
This extraordinary motorcycle is a rare and highly collectible piece of motoring history. It can be recommissioned for road use or prepared to take pride of place in a discerning collection.
