We have a piece of motorcycling royalty.
It is the work of Arturo Magni and his sons,Carlo and Giovanni.
Anybody who knows the glorious history of Count Domenico Agusta and his aircraft ,helicopter, and ,most importantly to us,his motorcycle company, will already know of the legendary status of Arturo Magni.
By 1952 Magni had become 'Direttore Sportivo' (director of the racing department) under the watchful eye of Count Domenico.
Magni held this position until MV WITHDREW FROM COMPETITION IN 1976.
He employed the greatest motorcycle racers the world has ever seen,Provini,Ubbiali,Sandford,Read,Surtees,Hailwood and the G.O.A.T., one Giacomo Agostini,'Ago',to his friends.
From the factory on the shores of Lago di Varese ,Magni guided MV Agusta to 37 Manufacturers titles and 38 Rider titles.
75 World Championships.270 Grand Prix victories.That is some C.V.
Basically,Signor Ingegnere Magni knew what he was doing and this motorcycle is the result of all that knowledge.
These 861 Magni MV Agustas, with the exception of the race bikes, are the ultimate example of the art of the motorcycle.
MV Agusta do not simply build a motorcycle,it is way beyond that. You enter a very special world. You become part of what Count Domenico,Arturo,Hailwood and Ago created.
Magni started off with a stock 750'S' which was then totally stripped and rebuilt. The 4 cylinder motor was rebuilt using high compression pistons and capacity was increased from 750cc to 861cc.New camshafts and different 'Dell'Orto' carburettors where used.
A chain drive conversion was next on the list and all the suspension was modified over and above the stock 750.
This particular example has got upgraded AP Racing discs and calipers and state ot the art Maxton front and rear suspension.
It has been looked after by its fastidious last owner with the help of 'Meccanica Verghera Ltd.'
Check them out, as this small, inspirational company founded by David Kay and now run by his son Mark and his grandson Mitch, single handedly kept the great name of MV Agusta going during the dark days of the 80's and 90's.
The work they do is beyond compare. They are geniuses (should that be 'genii'?).
We have all the original parts, stacks and stacks of build history, stacks of invoices and the hand books.
It has had two very interesting owners in its early life, the first being a drummer in the greatest prog rock band the world has ever seen.It then went to the owner and founder of Circuito Ascari, Klaas Zwart ,possibly the biggest petrolhead in Europe.
Whoever buys this piece of motorcycling art is buying into a very, very special world, just think if you ever meet up with Giacomo Agostini you will be able to call him 'Ago'.
